Demonstrating our commitment to the local community through our sponsorship policies
We are closely involved in sports and cultural activities in Belgium, both at national and local level.
Our sponsorships policies go far beyond purely financial support. As an active, loyal and socially engaged company, we establish sustainable relationships with our partners. We also aim to reach socially and culturally diverse audiences.
BNP Paribas Fortis’ three main areas of active sponsorship are tennis, cinema and wider cultural events.
Number 1 tennis partner
Tennis and BNP Paribas have been closely linked for over 40 years. This partnership, which began in 1973 with the French Open tournament at Roland Garros, is one of the longest-running relationships in the history of sport.
Likewise we are the main partner to the sport of tennis in Belgium.
We maintain active sponsorship ties with Belgium’s twin national tennis federations, Tennis Vlaanderen and Association Francophone de Tennis.
Our commitment to tennis, encapsulated in the strapline ‘We Are Tennis’, takes practical form in the support we give to a wide variety of events, including at regional or local level.
A long-term commitment to cultural activities
Belgium boasts an extremely rich cultural and artistic scene. We help to promote this wealth and diversity of culture through our corporate philanthropy programmes, also acting as sponsor to such prestigious events as the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition.
In addition, we maintain close cooperation links with La Monnaie, BOZAR and Flagey, three internationally famous cultural centres.
We are the exclusive partner in Belgium of Culture at the Cinema, an initiative to screen classic international ballet and opera performances at local cinemas.
Last but not least, we work in partnership with three museums – MAC’s at Grand-Hornu, the Dhondt-Dhaenens museum at Deurle, and WIELS, the Contemporary Arts Centre in Brussels.
Sponsor and financier of film and film-making
This strong commitment is demonstrated by our support to a range of active sponsorships, including the Magritte du Cinéma, the Ostend Film Festival and the Ensors film awards, the international animated film festival Festival Anima, the Be Film Festival, the international festival of French-speaking films in Namur, the national film archive CINEMATEK and the Cinevox promotional platform. And every year in September we run the BNP Paribas Fortis Film Days, which give everyone the chance to enjoy four days of cinema for just €4 per movie.
Furthermore, drawing on its experience of the cinema world, BNP Paribas Fortis set up in 2008 its own film finance vehicle, BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance, offering a tax shelter solution for investors putting money into the movie business, hence, operating as one of the key sources of finance for cinema in Belgium.
