BNP Paribas Wealth Management ranks 6th in the world in the domain of private banking, according to a rating conducted by Euromoney. This rank is one place higher than last year’s. In France, BNP Paribas remains number one for two years in a row.
François Debiesse, Head of BNP Paribas Wealth Management gives his views on the ranking:
“This upward change in our ranking for 2009 gives me great satisfaction. Firstly, we should remind ourselves that the Euromoney ranking is decided on by professionals – that is, representatives from our industry. As such it reflects the opinion that the industry has of the various players in the market.
Since BNP Paribas’ merger, we had always been ranked tenth or so, but this year we have moved up to the sixth place. This is a considerable advance, and it reflects the standing that BNP Paribas Wealth Management has achieved in the professional world – in terms of development and in terms of its positioning in the financial services landscape, which has changed dramatically this last year as a result of the crisis. In France we have maintained our leading position, and I would say that it is fair and justified.
On the other hand, our progress at the international level stands out as a particular achievement – especially when compared to other actors who have suffered badly in the downturn, including some very big names. It is an achievement that is both a reflection and a result of the bank’s stability and its pursuit of development, and has meant that BNP Paribas has taken a vital leap forward in the context of its professional environment. Frankly, I am very happy with this sixth place, especially in a year like this one, but for me, this is not the end in itself. We will continue… we will keep moving forward.”
