Sponsoring and financing the Seventh Art
BNP Paribas has been closely linked with the world of cinema since the Group was created in 1973. From 2010 onwards we have also been forging strong partnerships with the Seventh Art in Belgium.
Our multi-faceted support is based on common values that we share with cinema: proximity and accessibility, innovation and creativity, realisation of dreams, a positive view of a world that is constantly evolving.
Cinevox, a love affair with Belgian cinema
In 2011, BNP Paribas Fortis began to lend support to the Cinevox social media platform.
Supporting Belgian filmmaking talent
Since 2014 BNP Paribas Fortis not only acts as the main sponsor of the Ensor awards ceremony which brings the curtain down on the Ostend Film Festival but also as partner to the festival as such.
These partnerships serve to strengthen the links between BNP Paribas and the film-making business in Belgium.
The French-speaking Film Festival in Namur, another not-to-be-missed event in the world of cinema
Via Cinevox, we also act as partner to the Festival international du film francophone, which takes place every year in October in the capital of Wallonia.
The FIFF places emphasis on auteur (independent) cinema, young film makers, primarily Belgian productions but also foreign films from France, Romenia, Switzerland, Quebec, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Maghreb and Lebanon.
In 2014, 150 films were programmed at the festival, including 15 in official competition to receive a golden Bayard. The festival attracts yearly more than 30,000 true fans of cinematographic discovery. Public interest is further strengthened by the presence of star guests who, like Michel Piccoli et Audrey Tautou in 2014, make Namur look like a small Cannes.
BNP Paribas Fortis Film Days, starting each year the new film season off with a bang
Every year in September, the BNP Paribas Fortis Film Days have a treat in store for everyone: four days of movies for just € 4 per ticket. During these BNP Paribas Fortis Film Days, all films on current release can be seen in nearly all Belgian theaters.
This initiative starts the new film season off with a bang, encouraging everyone to go to the cinema.
Be Film Festival, an immersion in the world of Belgian cinema
Every year the Be Film Festival offers movie previews plus a retrospective on the best Belgian films that have been released during the year and won awards at major film festivals.
We first became involved in the Be Film Festival as presenting partner in 2012.
The programme, which is always very varied, comprises films made originally in either French or Dutch.
CINEMATEK, a century of Belgian film history
This institution works to build, preserve and promote an impressive collection of films of aesthetic, technical or historical interest.
Subsidised by the federal Ministry for Scientific Policy, these national Film Archives also contain an array of interesting documentation on the cinematographic art in this country.
In this way, we help to preserve this heritage and make it accessible to everyone.
BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance
Our sponsorship policy is given further impetus by BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance, which provides backing for a variety of film and television productions in Belgium.
Since BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance was set up in 2008, the unit has financed over 120 productions (films, TV series and documentaries for the big screen), attracted more than 1,000 investors and invested some €165 million on behalf of third parties.
